[ER] V0.0.4, The Mystery Update!


Hello there.

This month's update has pushed things quite a bit forward.  I've expanded the islands, added a new core mechanic, and added a new character along with actually adding dialogue for the characters that's not purely a tutorial.  I'm now nearly to the point I want the game to be to pitch it to publishers or actually ask for money.  Scary times are coming fast.

Rather than talk too much about that like I do in my Discord, I'll just list what's been added or changed, and expand on each of them a bit.

Additions

  • Islands: I've expanded the islands to nearly 3 times the size they were before, adding some areas to simply wander, and some more  memorable spots to return to.  The desert is the main focus of this demo, but the other islands have been expanded as well, even if they don't have any additional content there.
  • Claudia: The Immortal Fire Mage, Pirate Queen and scourge of the seven seas!  She's a bit abrasive, but supposedly there's a heart of gold to be found somewhere in there!  And not just the one she tore out of her foes.
  • Ori Dialogue: She now has dialogue that's not directly a tutorial!  (Also the tutorial is slightly inaccurate now, don't worry about it.)  You can properly see her bubbly, optemistic attitude, and some of the cases where she can't hide her remorse.
  • Starting Dialogue: Now you can learn the history of your protaganist, the amnesiac mage who's found his way to the Elemental Planes!  He certainly needs the help learning that history...
  • Crafter Subtypes: No longer does one crafter craft all, instead each station will have its own list of things it can craft.  (At the moment, that includes: A wood working station, and a Seed Crafting station.  Listen, it's planning for the future.)
  • Decorations: I've added ruins throughout all the islands, showing the age of the place.  Each holding an important meaning, an important use...

Changes

  • Aspect Fish: Hopefully the elemental aspects escaping their pools or getting completely stuck will be less common.  While my testing of spawning dozens at once still had one or two escapees, that was also an extreme case that should be impossible anyway.  If they can still escape, I'm going to have to move away from making the walls solid, and toward preventing them from going too far.
  • Crafter (UI + Model): The crafter has a new visual.  Look at those dials, clearly Elise must have known what she was doing.  And the UI also now lists how many aspects/items you have in your inventory when you're crafting.
  • Aspect Merging: Aspects are no longer merged at a device, instead you throw elementals together in the world to combine them.  A much more satisfying means of arcane artistry.
  • Elemental Pool: Elemental Pools now have a glyph showing the element they're attuned to.  A bit less experimentation and counting the aspects, and a bit more mystery.
  • Sleep: I've decided on Sleep being your main stamina recovery method, and I've added some visuals so resting is less boring.  Now you can watch over the ranch as it continues on while you sleep.
  • Spawner Visuals: Slowed down the spawner's particles to be a bit less...  crazy.  Now it's a gentle pool of mana bleeding through to match the mood.


(I'm mostly sure it doesn't notify everyone of every file uploaded without a devlog.  If it does, I apologize, I am not organized because I will keep adding new stuff rather than polishing.)
